[入門編]英作文のトレーニング(1)

石神 勉，「[入門編]英作文のトレーニング」，増進会出版社，1995年．

大学受験用の教材だからといって恥ずかしがらない．
自分の解答と模範のそれをテキストのガイドラインをもとに比較してお勉強します．
ちなみに以下で書く模範はテキスト中の模範解答ではなく，僕の解答に対してテキストのガイドをもとに添削を行った結果の解答です．よって，ちゃんとした模範解答ではないです．

Ex.1 当地の気候はきわめて温暖で，冬でもめったに雪は降りません．
自分： The climate is very warm here, and it rarely snows in winter.
模範： The climate is very mild here, and it seldom snows in winter.
mildは覚えよう．seldomとrarelyはrarelyのほうがやわらかい表現．

Ex.2 あのデパートはブランド品のバーゲン中です．
自分： Brand goods are in bargain at that department store.
模範： Branded goods are being on sale at that department store.
ブランド品はbranded goods，バーゲン中はon saleね．あと，つねにそうでないときには〜中を表現するために現在進行形にすると．

Ex.3 人には誰でも何らかの生まれながらの才能があるのですが，それを生かせるかどうかが問題です．
自分： Men have some capability that is got inborn. It is a problem whether they can do well or not with the capability.
模範： Men have some inborn capability. It is a question whether they can make use of it or not.
生まれながらのはinborn．hogeを生かすはmake use of hoge = put hoge to good use．problemよりquesiton＠この文脈．

Ex.4 ｢乗車券を拝見します．｣｢はい，どうぞ．｣
自分： "The ticket please." "Sure."
模範： "Tickets please." "Here it is."
Sureでもいい気がするけど，こういうとこでHere it is = Here you areが出てくるようにすれ．

Ex.5 ディズニーランドはとても面白かったよ，君もくればよかったのに．
自分： We enjoyed very much at Disneyland. I wish you had come with us.
模範： We had lots of fun at Disneyland. I wish you had come with us.
enjoyではなく，have lots of fun．仮定法とか危ういな．

Ex.6 ｢近頃どうも体の調子がおかしくてね．」「一度診てもらったほうがいいよ．」
自分： "I feel a little bad in these days." "You had better go to a doctor."
模範： "I haven't been feeling to good in these days." "You had better go to a doctor."
よくないはbadというかはnot goodで．こういうときは進行形の現在完了にすれ．

Ex.7 祖父は80を越えていますが，足はいたって達者です．
自分： My grandfather is over eighty, but he has good feet.
模範： My grandfather is over eighty, but he is a good walker.
a hoge foo-erの形は浮かぶようにする．

Ex.8 サファリパークにいらっしゃるなら5番のバスです．30分ほどで着きます．
自分： Take the No.5 bus, if you want to go to the safari park. It takes about thirty minutes.
模範： Take the No.5 bus, if you are going to the safari park. It's about a thirty minute ride.
こういうの，書けるようにしなきゃ．

Ex.9 このテレビドラマを見れば江戸時代の庶民の暮らしぶりがよくわかります．
自分： This TV drama shows you the life of the common people in the age of Edo.
模範： This TV drama will show you clearly the lives of the common people in the Edo period.
時制を変えるのが自信がないな．livesはそれぞれの生活と考えるのか．抽象的な生活という概念ならlifeでいいと思ったのだけど．the Edo period(Age)は言い回しを覚えておこう．使わないけど．

Ex.10 あの人はお化粧のせいで若く見えるけれど，もう40歳を越えているのよ．
自分： Her good makeup makes her look younger, but she is already over forty.
模範： Her good makeup makes her look young for her age, but she is already over forty.
for hoge's ageは覚えておかなきゃ．どうでもいいけどfortyの綴りをfourtyって書いていた．

こういうのできないと切ない．

数詞に敏感になりたい．

(6)山本夫妻は教会へ行きません．
自分： Mr. and Mrs. Yamamoto do not go to a church.
解答： Mr. and Mrs. Yamamoto do not go to church.
go to hogeのときのhogeの冠詞が気になったので，辞書で調べてみた．対象を特に指し示さない(特定しない)ときにはhogeには冠詞をつけないよう．おそらく，意味としては以下の感じになるのだろう．
(a) go to church： 教会に行く
(b) go to the church： ある特定の教会(その教会)に行く
このへんの感覚だよな，必要なのは．

自分： Work for your wife and your children.
解答： Work for your wife and children.
your (wife and children) と考えるのか．自分のは表現がくどいのか？

(8)「売地」
自分： わかんね．
解答： Lot for sale
lotは土地の一区画という意味もある．

(11)ここに1日泊まりなさい．
自分： Stay here for a day.
解答： Stay here for one day.
ここはaでもoneでもよいと思っていた．辞書で調べたけどaでもよいっぽいな．ニュアンスが違うのかね．

Lesson 60
(1)わたしたちはその提案に反対投票をします．
自分： We make an against vote for the proposal.
解答： We vote against the proposal.
こういう文は書けない．

(3)君は僕に賛成かい．反対かい．
自分： Are you for me or against?
解答： Are you for me? Are you against me?
僕のはyes or noで答えられないじゃん．駄目だ．

Advanced Grammar in Use(1)

Present simple and present continuous(1)

現在形は(1)いつも真であること，(2)現在存在していて知るかぎり無期限に存在する状況，(3)習慣や定期的に起きることを記述するときに利用する． # on a regular basis: 定期的に(= regularly)

performative verbs: accept, acknowledge, advise, apologise, assume, deny, guarantee, hope, inform, predict, promise, recommend, suggest, suppose, warn

performative verbsはよりためらいがちであったり丁寧な表現をしたいときにmodalsと一緒に用いる．
# would, have toなど

現在進行形は(1)話しているときにはすでに始まっていて終わっていないこと，(2)一時的であるかそうであるかもしれない状況を記述するときに利用する．

現在起きていることを強調する際，

などを使う．

練習問題での誤答から．
We usually get up at about 7.00. 習慣として起きる
We usually are getting up at about 7.00. 習慣では起きている最中である
I go swimming in the evenings to try to lose weight. 習慣として行っている．
I am going swimming in the evenings to try to lose weight. temporalであることを強調している．

ウェブ・サービスで効率的に英単語の学習を実現してくれる単語力(タンゴリキ)

単語力(タンゴリキ)がすばらしい．

英単語の意味を三択であてるクイズ方式で単語を学習していくことができるサイト．
1度のテストでは10問でる．1分以内に終わる．そのテストで(1)解答できたor解答できなかった単語の難しさと(2)解答時間，(3)正答率によって単語力（タンゴリキ）が計られる．
多くの回数を行うことでより正確に現在の語彙の程度がわかる．
収録されている単語は8000あり，実用的なものが選ばれているのでTOEICやTOEFL受験用にもよさそう．

テストは(1)難易度のレベルごとに出題されるレベル別テストと(2)8000単語の中からランダムに出題されるランダムテスト，(3)8000単語を順番に従ってすべてを出題する総まくりテストの3つがある．
学習の目的によって3つの方法を選べる．たとえば精査的に学習したいなら総まくりテストをすればいい．

また，単語を覚えるのに必須な単語帳が実装されている．
間違った単語やあいまいであったが三択故にあたった単語などを選んで単語帳に入れることができる．
単語帳では単語と意味が一覧でき，また正確で詳細な意味をウェブ上の辞典からすぐに検索できるような仕組みが備えられている．
単語帳では自分が何回間違ったかや，いつその単語を登録したのかがわかる．

単語力（タンゴリキ）の強みをまとめてみる．


e-learningのお手本となるような(1)学習を駆動させる仕組み，(2)成果をたしかにするチェックの仕組みを実現している単語力(タンゴリキ)をお勧めしたい．

ちなみに今430くらい(テスト回数40回程度)．術語には強いけど，普通の言葉がきつい．英語を読むのがほぼ論文のみだからか．

アメリカ大統領選挙の話題．
長いので2回に分けることにした．このタスク，別に優先度の高いものではないので．

今回は現状の記述．ケリーはブッシュに10ポイント差をつけられていて，巻き返しがないとやばいよ，というお話．

With 50 days left in his presidential campaign and nearly 10 points behind in the polls, John Kerry found himself this week in a familiar situation: surrounded by people willing him on, but who were having trouble understanding what he had to say.

イギリスでは，試験のせいで学校では教育と書籍の予算が削られることが問題になっているらしいです．

Schools are being forced to transfer money from teaching,
books and equipment to fund "out of control" exam costs of £380m a
year, headteachers warned yesterday.

学校は年間380,000,000ポンド(760億円)もの”コントロールできない”試験のコストを捻出するために，教育や書籍，施設の資金を削減することを強いられている，と校長は昨日警告した．
The Secondary Heads Association said the price tag,
inflated partly by a doubling in exam fees in just four years, was
evidence of a bloated examinations system.

中等学校校長協会(自信ない)は，試験料が部分的には4年間の間に2倍に膨らんだことにふれて，(試験の)値札が膨れた試験システムの証拠であると述べている．
Some sixth form colleges are having to spend as much as
